Voting is in the air, already. Chances are you’ve never heard of the King Conservation District elections, until this year. In 2019, the election of a new board supervisor had a *whopping* 0.3% turnout. In an effort to make voting easier, this year the King Conservation District has partnered with King County Elections, Democracy Live, and Tusk Philanthropies to offer mobile voting. Opinions vary as to whether mobile voting is a good idea, but you can get the details below.

If mobile voting isn’t your thing, sea.citi and Communities in Schools of Seattle are bringing students to local tech companies next month. Helping students understand and access the local tech industry is advantageous to their education and vital to our ecosystem. Email us at info@seaciti.org and we’ll let you know if and when students will be headed to your company.

Your city is better with you.

Happy New Year! Nick, CEO

King Conservation District Voting

King County residents can vote in this year’s election of a board supervisor by February 11th. KCD is piloting a new technology this year to expand voting access. Watch the video below to learn more or visit kcdvotes.org.

In our first year of operations 650 workers attended sea.citi events and volunteered in schools. We discussed current local transportation policy, highlighted innovative solutions to housing and homelessness, and learned how schools are funded. Innovators Engage brought together Seattle City Council candidates and workers to learn about each other. We delivered workshops on local civics across the industry and tabled at meet-up groups to ask tech to vote.

2020 Legislative Session is Underway

The Washington State Legislature plays a vital role in shaping our communities. Just before the short – 60 day – legislative session began, employees from Amazon, Zillow, Rover, Uber, Vulcan and Tableau gathered at Amazon’s Day 1 building to hear from Senator Reuven Carlyle and Representative Gael Tarleton about their priorities. Get a glimpse at what it takes to make state-wide public policy.
